Saving money sounds like an impossible task to a lot of parents. There's always an unexpected expenditure or bill to settle when you have a family.

Carol Yip, founder and CEO of Abacus for Money, says saving money or spending less is all about the family's personality, belief system and values. It's about how you were brought up, what your priorities are, whether keeping up with the Joneses is important and what you need versus what you want.

And, if you want to start saving now, it's about a lifestyle change.

Yip: Saving money is about making a lifestyle change.

“Do we need things to make us happy or do we value relationships more? Then again how do we build relationships – by giving things, by going out or by communicating? These days we have a lot of stress at work - how do we handle it? Do we look for things to make us feel good? Some people will buy things, some go for holidays and some go home and do something to relax which doesn't involve money. How do we spend within our means?

“You need to look at yourself. If you have all that you need, why are you still buying? Can you discipline yourself to not go out and spend money and yet find life meaningful and achieve your life goals?” asks Yip.

Practical ways

According to her, if a family really wants to cut down on expenses and save, they have to sit down and make a list of what they spend on, then decide which items are not important that the family can do without.

“Will everyone in the family be happy if you don't spend? That's where the family members have to sit down and talk about it – how they can save money and not spend, how they can recycle, how they can buy items only when they are on discount,” says Yip.

She highlights a current trend in the United States where families only buy whatever groceries are on discount and cook their meals based on that. This way, they can cook for a family of four for a very minimal amount of money.

To cut down on expenses, families can try buying groceries from shops that offer lower prices.

“You can't fight inflation because it's beyond your control. But you can control your personal inflation which is how much you spend. Instead of shopping at a place where you know the prices are higher, shop at a place that's cheaper. Or, you may come up with a support system where you buy in bulk and share with your friends who want to buy the same item because buying in bulk is cheaper.

“It's always about finding ways not to spend too much based on what you earn.

“I can tell you it's possible to spend no more than RM50 a week if you're comfortable eating simple meals and don't yearn for anything extra,” says Yip.

She believes that there is no standard method or technique for how families can save money. If they want to they have to cut down as and where they can according to their family's needs.

Holidays

Going for holidays doesn't have to be an expensive affair, either. According to Yip, local or regional destinations can be relatively inexpensive. Importantly, you need to do your research to find out which destinations are affordable in terms of transport, accommodation and currency exchange rate.

“I have travelled to destinations where I really enjoyed myself but didn't spend much. AirAsia is free or practically free these days; you can stay in a basic hotel - don't go for five-star hotels, and go to cheap eating places. That's called budget travelling.

“When I travel I only take with me a certain amount of cash and I try not to bring my credit card along. I don't feel insecure at all without it.

“Recently, I went to the Gold Coast in Australia. It was a paid trip. I was there for about three days and I only brought along A$100 (RM300). I used A$50 and brought back A$50,” says Yip.

She suggests that families go to countries where the exchange rate is not so high. Take note though that just because a country is within this region doesn't necessarily mean it's cheap as the accepted currency could be the US dollar.

As Yip says, don't go to a country that you've always dreamt of going to but can't afford to visit.

Priorities

Yip recommends families settle the important bills first every month. This includes items which, if not settled, will result in a fine or late payment fee. This would include utility bills which, if not settled, will result in your phone line or electricity being cut, and credit card bills.

Then come the necessities – things you cannot go without.

“There are many things that we don't need to buy every month or every two months unless they are spoilt or lost. Some people buy new things because they get bored with old items. Why not buy second hand, or go to the library to borrow books or exchange movie DVDs with friends.

“We go for the easy way out but convenience comes at a price,” says Yip.

Conclusion

Saving together helps build family relationships. Yip advocates families having a common savings account with everyone chipping in.

“That is part of building relationships. A lot of times families break down because of money problems. It's good to start when children are young and tell them, 'Now that you have an allowance why don't you contribute some money into this account?'. Then, the whole family can decide how to invest the money. Make it part of daily practice. Chances are you will be able to build the concept that this is what we do together as a family – we save and share money.”

Yip says just because families are cutting expenditure and trying to save more doesn't mean you stinge on everything. There needs to be a balance between spending and saving.

“I'm not saying that they have to cut down everything and their life will be boring and pathetic. We're talking about changing a whole lifestyle and behaviour. It's like getting people to lose weight. It's about sacrifices you have to make to lose the weight,” she says.

Saving money is after all a lifestyle decision, not just about putting money in the savings account.

After sometimes, your product may become saturated when you realize it was marketed everywhere on the internet. Worst still, you're no longer making any decent sales from it due to tough competition.

In other words, the days of glory for your product is over and now it's nearing its demise. Nothing is impossible even if your product is of high quality and having lots of demand back then.

As if you're at a crossroad, having a hard time whether to take it off the shelf or to continue selling. Moreover, sales are not very promising. Your JV partner or your affiliate who use to promote your product aggressively, have now given up on your product.

Thus, you need new strategies to revive peoples desire towards your product.

As you're running out of marketing strategies on your product, then it's only logical to resort to other means to revive it.

In this example, one effective method is to relaunch your product once again.

"Product Relaunch" is not something new in marketing strategies. Merchants will usually do one or more of the following:

1. Change labels or product appearance
If your product is an ebook, then maybe you would change the ebook cover, banner or the overall selling page or minisite. Turning a digital product into a physical product is one good alternative.

2. Rewrite the sales letter
Eventhough it is the same product, but the way it is presented in the sales letter can make a different in order to attract other possible market or to lure attention to current market.

3. Restructure affiliate commission

If you have commission for affiliates, then this is the right moment to restructure the commission for affiliates. What you offered previously, for example 30% payout for every sales made may not be attractive enough to your associates but if you increase it to 60%, there is a possibility they will get fired up and start promoting your product.

4. Adding more content to product

Most buyers will be glad if more content are added to the product compared to the earlier ones. If your former ebook has only 100 pages, and now you have added 75 pages more, the buyer will feel that you have increase the value of the product eventhough what you did was adding some information to certain part which requires some explanation which is not available previously.

5. Reevaluate price of product

Giving more content while maintaining your price (or reduce price) will make potential buyers attracted to purchase your product where they have doubts about the price and content previously. You can even win the heart of former potential buyers.

From here, you are exposed to various methods of product relaunch of your available products.

Product relaunch method which you use to do before can be used again as if you are launching a totally new product.

Among them are making contest for top affiliates, seeking new business partners, purchasing advertisement spots in targeted web pages, make JV partners, product prelaunch and so on.

“Want to know how to multiply your turnover 10 times, increase your profits by 500% and get rid of your competitors - all at the same time?” an acquaintance asked me the other day.

Hey, when someone comes along spouting such words, even yours truly can’t help but be interested. “What do you have in mind?” I asked.

“Well, I know a way you can do all that with just one stroke,” he smiled widely.

Wow! This was getting better by the minute. My eyes lit up.

“All you have to do is lobby the government to raise the tax on impoted books,” he grinned.

“Once that happens - you’ve got it made. The imported books will be so much more expensive that few people can afford to buy them. That means they will have to buy local books only. Your sales will shoot up!”

He went on, “But that’s not the beauty of it all. What’s even better is that you can then raise your prices without doing any improvement whatsoever to your product. This will increase your profits automatically. Isn’t that wonderful?”

That nearly floored me. I looked into his eyes. He was grinning proudly as if he had given me the secrets to eternal happiness, sexual gratification and harmony in the afterlife.

I did not know whether to laugh or cry or kick him in the groin. What I did know was that I wanted to put as much distance between us as quickly as possible. Had a 747 been parked nearby, I would have cranked the engines and flown into the sunset right there and then. But I attempted a retort.

“No, it’s not a wonderful thing.” I told him. As expected, his jaw dropped and his eyes rolled. “In fact, it will be one of the worst things to happen to this country.”

“Why do you say that? Don’t you want to make more money?”

“Of course I do. Trade barriers, protection and unfair taxes have never worked in the history of the world. While it may appear to have short-term benefits, it will do serious damage in the long run.”

“While the idea behind protecting local industries is good - to give them breathing space - in reality, the reverse happens. Because of the absence of competition, the industries have little desire to improve productivity and quality. They just sit back and enjoy the big fat profits. Now, this may go on for years, but eventually it will all come crumbling down. Eventually, they willhave to pay the piper. It may take 10, 20 or even 50 years, but fall, they will. And when they fall, they have a long way to fall.”

“Case in point - communism.”

“Yes, of course, I want to increase my turnover and profits. But I want to do so by being good. I want people to buy my books because they want to, not because they have no other choice. I want to be hired because I am good, not because of my looks, my race or my religion. While there will be folks who will welcome such gifts with open arms, and indeed grab them in a split second, I’m not one of them. As long as you are protected, the best you can be is a ‘jaguh kampung’. And I have no intention of being that.”

He was breathing hard. Finally, he declared, “You’re too idealistic!” before storming off into the shadows.

I wanted to tell him that only only the strong would survive in this world. And you only become strong with competition.

Competition will ensure that you remain on your toes, get your better, innovate, reduce your cost, be creative, be resourceful and grow. And that’s how you grow big, strong and rock the world.

The only way Malaysia is going to make waves is to have world-class products, services and ideas. That has been the success factor in the past thousand years and that’s the way it’s going to be in the next thousand.

So, remove the barriers and let the flight begin. No one owes us anything.

Manage money for your baby

AFTER saving for almost a year, Adam and Aida have finally saved enough for the down payment of their dream home, a freehold double-storey old house but very well-maintained.

What really attracted them was the close proximity to Adam's parents' home. Besides, there's also a hypermarket, a school, hospital, a playground and shops located nearby.

The owner originally asked for RM350,000 but after much negotiation and bargaining, they finally settled at RM325,000. They paid RM25,000 as down payment and took out a loan for RM300,000 for 30 years.

As Aida is working in a bank, she was able to arrange a staff loan facility at three per cent per annum, which works out to a monthly repayment of only RM1,300, instead of the initial budgeted amount of RM2,000. This was a huge saving.

With a home of their own comes along additional expenses, like utility bills, quit rent, property assessment, home insurance and occasional maintenance and repairs. Adam and Aida have now created a liability for themselves in the process of financing it through a home loan. In essence, they do not own the home until they finish paying off the loan. Meanwhile, it would be wise for them to cover that liability with an insurance programme should something unfortunate happen to either of them.
Most often, banks would recommend taking out a Mortgage Reducing Term Assurance (MRTA) which may be the most affordable option. However, we can also top up on our personal life insurance programme to cover for such liability. Adam and Aida decided to increase their personal insurance coverage by RM150,000 each as this would give them greater control and flexibility. Barring all this in mind, they felt it was necessary to come up with a new budget.

From their revised budget, they were still able to have a surplus.

Now that they have their own house, they felt it's time to start a family. All this while, they were unsure if they can afford to start one but after having reviewed their budget, they felt that they could manage.

Before you embark on your journey to parenthood, you might want to consider some of the following issues:

- Are you ready for the ride? Having children do not only involve financial adjustments but also emotional.

In fact, your whole life will change and once you decide to take this journey, there's no turning back. Many couples become parents by default or by accident (in some cases) but may not have taken a course in parenting or at the very least learn some basics of parenting via "on-the-job" learning or with some "mentoring" from their own parents. You have to get yourselves physically, mentally, emotionally and financially prepared for this parenthood adventure.

- What are your Childcare Plans? If you are planning to return to work, it is a good idea to make plans for your child well before he or she is born. Childcare centres often have long waiting lists. Consider your options: at-home care in your home, home-based childcare in another home, or traditional childcare centres.

Be sure to visit many places and get referrals from friends and families. When visiting a centre, talk to parents and, of course, find out the costs. However, if one of you is planning to stay home full-time to care for your child, there will be more adjustments to be made.

Yes, it may not be easy to survive on a single income for most urban families nowadays, but these are some of the sacrifices that you'd have to make. Decide on who's going to stay home and who's going to bring the money. This is a choice that only both of you, as a couple can make and know best.

- Review your monthly budget, or create one. Life will never be the same again and so will your budget. Having a baby will normally add to your monthly expenses.

For example, diapers and baby formula alone can cause quite a dent and you'll see increases in miscellaneous expenses too, such as napkins and laundry detergent.

Of course, one of the best ways to save on baby formula would be to breast-feed your child but it requires a lot of determination and sacrifice.

Other than that, your utility bills will likely to increase as you'll be home more often and have more laundry to wash. Medical expenses, including visits to the pediatrician, can really add up, especially over the baby's first few years.

And if you're planning to return to work, the cost of childcare can add several hundred ringgit a month to your expenses.

The key is to know how your money is being spent now and to plan for how things will change once the baby arrives.

- The most crucial thing to remember is financially, any expenses or future expenses can be managed with a budget that has been predetermined and the commitment to make necessary adjustments to your lifestyle when the need arises.

MBG Fruits Sdn Bhd, a local fruit store chain, has grown from strength to strength since it was first conceptualised in 2005.

According to managing director Adnan Lee, MBG is a first-of-its-kind fruit shop in the country with a money-back guarantee for fruits sold that are spoiled or rotten.

“If a customer is not satisfied with our fruits, they can return them,” he tells StarBizWeek.

Adnan says MBG decided to adopt the concept as it allows the company to keep track of the quality of its products. “This way, we get responses from customers if there is something wrong with the fruits we sell,” he says.

“In a month, we have five to 10 cases of people returning fruits. When they do that, we can find out which suppliers or farmers have been supplying us with substandard products.”

Adnan says his grandfather, who came all the way from China to Malaysia in the 1950s, started the business. “My father took over the store in 1980.”

In 1994, he took charge of the business and focused on branding it.

Adnan says what distinguishes MBG from other shops is the quality of its fruits.

“Eight out of 10 customers will buy fruits based on the price. The remaining two will base their choice on quality and choose MBG,” he says.

The company strives to provide the best value for money for all its fruits, be it local or imported, he says, adding: “Besides fresh fruits, we also sell cut fruits and fruit juice as well as providing extra services like fruit basket as gift and home delivery.”

Adnan describes his business as evergreen, as it has been passed down to the third generation now.

He says despite the current economic slowdown, all its outlets continue to perform well. “The buying power may have dropped but the number of customers is still increasing.”

He says the company, which now has 16 outlets, is set to open three or four more in the next few months.

“We intend to have 20 outlets by year-end,” he says, adding that MBG also plans to expand to Indonesia by 2011. Typically, each outlet costs RM200,000, he says.

Adnan says the company allocates about RM150,000 yearly to train its staff to improve their English, Cantonese as well as basic customer service.

Savings mean the road to financial freedom

THE discipline of being able to save consistently and on target would make or break our financial freedom journey. There are three main reasons why is saving important.

- The more we save, the more we accumulate

The first reason is simple and obvious. The more we save, the more we can accumulate. Obviously, we would have more resources to invest to grow our assets.

- The more we save, the less we spend

When we force ourselves to save more, we would definitely have less to spend. As such, we are able to control the standard of living and live below the mean.
Throughout my practice, I have come across clients who are able to accumulate substantial amount of assets through prudent spending and disciplined saving.

When we do not have too high a standard of living, it makes our job of maintaining a living standard during our retirement easier to attain.

On one hand, I have seen people who do not make much but save a lot. On the other hand, I have also met people who earn high income but save very little.

Many years ago, when I had just started my profession, I met Eugene, a chief executive officer of an American multi-national corporation, who earned more than RM50,000 a month.

At that time, he was the highest income-earner person I had ever met.

In my heart, I was overjoyed as I believed that I would have a big case on which to do financial and investment planning.

However, after the fact-finding process, I discovered that Eugene had assets worth only about RM2 million.

And about RM1 million of this asset was his forced savings in the Employees' Provident Fund.

The balance was the worth of the house he was staying in.

I was very surprised to find out that he had so little assets despite his high income.

So, I asked him: "Eugene, how much do you save every month?"

Eugene said: "Well, I did want to save every month. However, at the end of the month, there is always not much left."

So, if you just want to wait till you have more income to save more, you might as well forget it.

It is never about how much you make. It is always about how much you save.

- How best can we solve this problem?

Yes, you are right. Before you start spending and paying bills every month, pay yourself first.

Determine how much is the right amount of saving for you and save that amount first. It is even better if you can have a regular and automatic saving scheme.

- The more we save, the less rate of investment return we need

In fact, the more we save, the less risk we need to take in financial freedom planning.

Let's take an example of RM5,000,000 accumulation goal.

Let's assume that you are 45 years old, and planning to retire at 60.

If you can save RM50,000 per annum, you need to achieve 23.9 per cent of rate of interest (ROI) for RM5,000,000 goal.

If you can save RM120,000 per annum,you need to achieve 13.4 per cent of ROI.

If you can save RM180,000 per annum, you need to achieve only 8.3 per cent of ROI.

Of course, RM5,000,000 is only the example.

The lesson to be learnt is that the more we save, the less ROI is required to achieve the same accumulation goal.

When we do not need to achieve a high ROI, we do not need to stomach too much risk and volatility.

The less risks we take, the more peaceful life will be.

- How much to save?

I believe most of us understand the importance of saving. In fact, almost every time I was interviewed by the media, I would always be asked, "How much of their income should Malaysians save?"

To some financial planner, it is not a very difficult question for them to answer. Some would say 20 per cent. Some would say 30 per cent. Some would even say 40 per cent.

However, this is quite a tough and tricky question for me to answer.

Based on my experience of developing many tailor-made financial plans for clients, I know that the right saving rate varies from one person to another.

For example, if you have a monthly income of RM3,000, the right savings rate for you may be 20 per cent.

This is because you need to spend majority of your income to sustain your standard of living.

However, if you have a monthly income of RM50,000, the right savings rate for you may be 50 per cent.

This is because you don't need to spend the majority of your income to sustain your standard of living.

Of course, this is just one of many examples, but it shows that there is no standard "right saving" rate for every one.

Therefore, each of us should have a tailor-made financial plan to determine the right savings rate for us.

Only then, would we know that we are saving enough to meet our future commitments.

- What if your saving is under target?

If the savings and contributions are less than target planned, you may fail to achieve your financial freedom.

If the gap continues, chances are that you may not be able to achieve your original financial goals set.

In the situation whereby the actual saving is less than planned, we must review our cash flow statement to identify the discrepancy and take necessary recovery measures.

If we have confirmed that the planned saving target is unrealistic, it is important that we readjust some of our financial goals and asset allocation strategies.

The young would have dropped out of school but for some philanthropists. Today the entrepreneur is repaying the favour more than a hundred-fold.

MENTION Perfect (China) Co Ltd, and chances are eight out of 10 people in southern China will know the health and beauty care product manufacturer.

Not only is the Perfect brand well established in the Chinese market, but the entrepreneurial tale of its founder Datuk Koo Yuen Kim has also inspired many Chinese and Malaysians back home.

The Malaysian entrepreneur brought along his passion in business when he set up the company with his partners 15 years ago in Zhongshan in Guangdong province.

“I am the third generation of Malaysian Chinese,” said Koo. “My grandfather left China to come to Malaysia during the most difficult times of China.

“My grandfather, father and I have never forgotten our roots in Zhongshan. Now that the new China has emerged economically, I thought why don’t I take the opportunity to come back to do something for my ancestral home.”

In 1993, Koo returned to Zhongshan to prepare for the setting up of the company with the help of the city government and the overseas Chinese relations department.

“It was with hope and expectations that I came back to do business. I wanted to execute my plans for the company to perfection,” he said.

Over the past decade, Perfect has grown from strength to strength in the direct selling industry. In 1998, the company was among the only 10 organisations authorised by the Chinese authorities to market its products through dedicated outlets.

“We are very clear about our corporate philosophy. We keep clear of politics and religion. We also don’t talk bad about others,” Koo said.

Perfect has a long-term investment plan in China. The company recently added a 23ha manufacturing plant in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, to its existing 8ha Zhongshan production base and 33 branch offices throughout China.

Its products are also available through some 3,000 outlets in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia.

The figures speak for the contribution the company, under the management of two Malaysians (Koo and president Woo Swee Lian) and a Singaporean (vice-chairman Hooy Kok Wai), has made to the Chinese society.

In the 2006 Top Chinese Income Tax Contributors list, Perfect ranked 439th. Among foreign companies Perfect was placed 97th with a contribution of about 421 million yuan (RM205.8mil).

The company is also among the top 50 tax contributors in Guangdong province.

Koo came from a poor family and worked his way up the social ladder. As a child, he used to wake up at 5am to sell newspapers to help out his family. He would have dropped out of school had it not been for the Chinese philanthropists who saw him through his studies.

Koo has brought the values of perseverance and benevolence from his childhood to the business arena.

He guided his company to new heights in charity work. Perfect aims to build 100 Hope Schools in China, apart from the millions of dollars the company has donated to charity.

“The 100 schools are not our ultimate goal. We want more. So far, we have built 71 schools in various poverty stricken parts of China,” Koo said.

And the company’s philanthropic culture has taken root in the employees. Whenever they return home during their holidays, they will participate in local charity activities.

“Some entrepreneurs feel that it’s sufficient to build a strong company and leave charity work to the government. I don’t share that kind of opinion. None of us are poor enough not to help others and none of the companies are small enough not to do charity,” he said.

“Whenever I read their greetings and see their works, I will imagine the smile on their faces, and it’s a very good and peaceful feeling. That’s the force of charity,” said Koo, who is also Selangor Zhongshan Association president and an active Malaysian Chinese leader.

“If you ask me what’s the recipe of success, I think being hardworking in everything you do is very important, even though you may not succeed initially,” he said.

“Perfect has undergone ups and downs. During difficult moments, I would think of how the late Sun Yat-Sen, also a Zhongshan native, preserved and toppled the imperial government. And his virtue of universal love has been embraced by every Chinese,” he said.

With websites where people have very short focus span, you need something to lead visitors into the long headline before you make them read it. So I moved the long headline as a sub-headline. And then I created a new, very big, short headline.

I call this the 2-Step Headline method.

Here's what the new headline reads...

First headline: "How To Get Girls!"

Sub-headline: "World Renowned Pickup Guru Reveals A Proven Fail-Proof 'System' On How To Smoothly Approach Any Women Anywhere, Connect With Them Within Minutes & Walk Away With As Many Dates As You Want... Without Ever Getting Any Rejections!"

This is the simplest thing that you can do, and it only takes two minutes to implement. Think about something very common, that identifies with your readers. And then make that as the first headline, and make it really, really huge. If you are selling a guitar course, you can make it. "Learn To Play Guitar!"

If you are offering a dog training course, you can write, "Make Your Dog Obey!" And then you can lead them into the sub-headline where you play more with emotions, results and benefits.

You can try this and see how it improves your opt-in rates.

Step 2: **Designing The Opt-In Box

The part where you have your form with the name, email address and the button, I call that the opt-in box. David's opt-in box was way at the bottom of the page. And it was just a plain HTML box. I redesigned the opt-in box to give more appealing look. And I repositioned the box so that it appears above the fold (the first view without having to scroll down the browser).

It may seemed a little complicated where I applied some CSS design tricks to make the text fields appear 3D with shadows and colors, and not the normal boring text field that you see everywhere. That will attract the attention of website visitors. And showing that there's a form immediately makes visitors understand that they have to put in their name and email address.

Step 3: Show What It Is You Are Offering

Most squeeze pages offers this and that, but website visitors don't really know what it actually is. This is where I actually make them realize immediately what it is that I am offering. It is with pictures. It is not enough to just state the benefits of subscribing. Most of the times I see that people list out a tons of benefits in bullets, but people still don't get what you are offering.

Humans are visual creator. My solution to this problem is by pictures. And by that, I mean have real pictures. If you are offering a free audio interview, put up a picture of a CD or cassette tape. If you are offering an e-book, put up a picture of a book. If you are offering a video training, put up a picture of the screenshot, or a DVD.

When you have something like, it goes straight into your visitors head what it is that you are offering. The idea here is not to make your visitors think - even for a second.

If they start thinking, "What should I do here?", you are going to lose them.

Step 4: Good Design = Credibility = Opt-Ins

New websites like Facebook, MySpace, Digg, Technorati and rest are becoming popular. All these websites have good, simple, minimalist design. I call these Web2.0 style design, as they are Web2.0 companies. And website visitors are starting to have an eye for good designs like these.

And good design means credibility. And credibility means trust. And when they trust you, they are more likely to opt-in.

One thing that David's squeeze page was lacking was a good, credible website design. It was alright, but it was also cheesy-looking. In my book, when I say "cheesy", I mean that the design are trying too hard to look good. So I redesigned David's squeeze page with some huge fonts and a little of gradient color. And now, it doesn't look that cheesy anymore.

There you go, four simple steps I used to improved David's squeeze page. The result? You already know that. Now it's your turn.

he can redeem his T-shirt at your store. The same works the other way, with the flyer for the free soda being given to the customer at your store, after making a purchase of your merchandise.

This type of a promotion is very effective at bringing in customers that otherwise might
not visit your store.

Although it seems like you are losing money on this promotion, you will gain as those customers return to your store and buy more.

Remember that the free T-shirt that you are giving away, might only have cost you
a dollar at most. The amount of money that customer can spend later on can be in the thousands.
